WEDDINGS

Love Hub: M.J. Bale Romantics: Eva-Maria and Kris

M.J. Bale: Hi Eva and Kris, congratulations on your wedding! How did you two first meet?

Kris: Hello! We met in 2015 at a random door knocking job in Sydney. We were both backpackers, Eva from Germany and myself from England. Funnily enough, we both left to go travelling in February 2015 and ended up in the right place at the right time.

MJB: And was it love at first sight?

Kris: I think we can both agree it wasn’t! However, this meant that our friendship could flourish, and that’s the reason our relationship has been so good for so long.

MJB: Kris, what was it about Eva that made you fall for her?

Kris: Her passion for life. I loved the way she saw the world, the beauty in the little things that I took for granted. How much she cared for her friends...

MJB: And Eva, what did you love about Kris?

Eva: Oh, there is so much. But if I had to narrow it down, I would say I was immediately taken back by the calmness and positivity he radiated. This hasn’t changed to this day after nine years with me! He is the most fun and caring person I know. I also loved from the very start how we were as a couple. Our song walking out after the ceremony was “Better Together” by Hayden James, and that’s what we are: better together.

MJB: Tell us about the proposal. Where was it? How did it happen? Was it a surprise?

Kris: I‘d say it was a semi-surprise; I gave enough information so that Eva knew that it was going to a special night. I rented a catamaran on the Broadwater here on the Gold Coast. It was a stunning evening, with the most spectacular sunset. We spent the first hour or so drinking champagne and taking in the view. When the time was right, I queued up Innerbloom by Rufus, had the crew lower the sail which had ‘Will you marry me’ embroidered on it, got down on one knee and popped the question!

MJB: Tell us a bit about your choice to don an M.J. Bale number for the wedding. Were you chuffed with the outcome?

Kris: Initially, I was undecided on whether to go for a classic black tux or mix it up with a white blazer. Funnily enough, M.J. Bale was the first place I looked at, and I fell in love with the pearl-like tuxedo jacket. It felt too good to be true, so I spent the next week hunting similar styles and found nothing that compared. I was over the moon with the outcome.

MJB: Can you both talk to us about the venue for your wedding, where it was, and what the inspiration was?

Eva: We were lucky enough to have our wedding at the Calile Hotel in Brisbane. It’s a beautiful venue and had the aesthetic that we wanted for our wedding.

MJB: Any advice for aspiring grooms out there, whether about the proposal or Big Day itself?

Kris: Your wedding day will go so quickly, so live in the moment and take time to appreciate everything that has led you to this point. Also, make time on your wedding day to spend time with just your partner. Even if it’s 10 minutes away from everyone else, it’ll be your calm amid the storm!

MJB: Thanks, guys!
