From single-source Tasmanian Merino wool and Normandy linen to Australian cotton, M.J. Bale creates ‘garments of integrity’ from the world’s most ethical growers of sustainable natural fibres.
Considered one of the leading superfine Merino wool enterprises in Australia for fibre quality and consistency, Kingston farm in the Tasmanian northern Midlands is also a conservationist and carbon positive enterprise. The SustainaWOOL-accredited farm is home to 8% of all of Tasmania’s Indigenous grasslands and countless threatened flora and fauna. Fourth-generation farmer Simon Cameron adheres to regenerative agriculture practises, while providing his Merino flock with benchmark custodial welfare.
Kingston has been M.J. Bale’s single-source wool partner since 2015, as well as partner in our world-first methane-reduced wool trials since 2020. A percentage of every M.J. Bale Kingston sale is returned to the farm to be reinvested into land regeneration and biodiversity preservation projects.
Kingston superfine Merino wool is regularly rated ‘1PP’, by the Australian Wool Exchange, meaning it represents “the pinnacle of superfine wool growing excellence.” Kingston is also the birthplace of the world’s first methane-reduced wool trial, pioneered in partnership with M.J. Bale and Tasmanian seaweed producer, Sea Forest.
A fourth-gen farmer and regen ag pioneer, Simon produces a world-class natural fibre in harmony with the ancient environment and unique biodiversity of Kingston.
Ashby farm is a fifth-generation extrafine merino wool farm located in the Tasmanian Midlands. Owned by the Bennett family since the late 1800s, the farm produces a lustrous, silky fibre grown in symbiosis with the natural environment. Ashby has been single-source knitwear partner since 2018 and is responsible for our soft, fine-gauge collection of crew neck, V-neck, turtnleneck and longsleeve polo sweaters.
Produced at the pointy end of the extrafine Merino wool scale, Ashby wool is bright, soft and durable – perfect for warm winter knitwear that is engineered to last decades.
One of the oldest agricultural families in Tasmania, five generations (soon to be six) of Bennetts have been producing exceptional Ashby wool.
The latest addition to our “family” of single-source natural fibre producers, M.J. Bale’s Bradfield shirts are composed entirely of flax grown on two farms owned by the same family in Normandy, France. The flax, produced in this area for centuries, is grown according to benchmark European standards, with zero chemicals or genetically modified crops utilised.
We’re conducting a series of world-first experiments to decarbonise our supply chain (and having fun doing them).
