M.J. Bale: Hi Matt and Alissa! Congratulations on your wedding! Matt, what was it about Alissa that made you fall for her?
Matt: Liss is a beautiful woman, with a strong presence. When I first met her at Fox Sports I was taken by her beauty, composure and kindness.
MJB: And Alissa, what did you love about Matt?
Alissa: Matt is a kind, warm hearted, and selfless gentleman. When I first saw him, I quickly fell in love with his soft eyes, smile, and presence.
MJB: Tell us about the proposal. Where was it? How did it happen? Was it a surprise?
13th October, 2023. Brooklyn Bridge, New York City. Matt had organised a photographer to meet us at the Brooklyn Bridge so we could have a nice photo to hang at home in the living room… or so he told me! Matt dressed in the very nice suit he wore when they first met at Fox Sports and to my surprise, proposed during the photoshoot. I had absolutely no idea.
MJB: Can you tell us a bit about your choice to don an M.J. Bale number for the wedding? Were you chuffed with the final outcome?
Matt: I loved my M.J. Bale tuxedo for our wedding as it gave a formal feel to our country wedding. I felt really comfortable and confident wearing it and had some nice remarks on it from our guests.
MJB: Can you both talk to us about the venue for your wedding, where it was, and what was the inspiration? It looked stunning!
Alissa: We chose to hold the wedding on Matt’s family farm, ‘DaisyBank’, located in Kingaroy, Queensland. All locations including the ceremony, canape hour and reception were on the Farm.
The ceremony was at the entry to the farm underneath the ‘DaisyBank’ Sign on the cattle grid with the dirt road leading to the property behind. Guests enjoyed canape hour in the ‘Pine Forest’ before walking down a path called ‘Memory Lane’, lined with photos of both of us through the years. Matt surprised me with organising photos from each year we’d been together to be on display. Guests got to enjoy the photos as they walked down to the clear marquee draped in fairy lights overlooking a mountain. They were greeted by cattle that came up to say hello… before the sunset behind the mountainside.
MJB: Any advice for aspiring grooms out there, whether in relation to the proposal or big day itself?
Matt: Everyone says how fast the day goes before you get married. It’s definitely true. One piece of advice I would give other brides and grooms would be to make a really detailed plan of what you want to do and who you want to spend time with on your wedding day. Liss and I did this with photos, each other and close family and friends that we wanted to talk to at certain times during the day and night. This helped us to connect more on the day and also spend time with special people as well as seeing all guests at some point during the day.
MJB: Thanks guys!
